Shed Hunt

Shed hunt is an activity and dog sport where your dog finds naturally shed antlers from deer, moose and elk. These animals naturally shed their antlers every winter and people realized how good dogs are at finding them. The sport started so people can keep shed hunting all year round.

We offer training programs to teach your dog how to find and retrieve shed antlers for competition and wild shed hunting. We have antlers from whitetail deer, mule deer, moose and fallow deer so you dog can find sheds from many different species. We hope to get an elk antler soon!

Bone Clone Antler Wax

Bone Clone is the antler wax scent used in UKC competition and for training dogs to find wild sheds.

Antler Sheds

Antler sheds are a large part of training for shed hunt. Trial sheds are usually from average to large sized whitetail or mule deer. For most Etsy sellers they consider this medium or large but I prefer the large antlers the best for competition training. In our classes we do train for all sizes of antlers. Antler sheds need to be naturally shed from the deer and not cut in any way.

This is what a naturally shed antler looks like on the burr end.

Rubber Antlers

We start dogs in shed hunt with rubber antlers which many dogs see as a fun fetch toy. It’s much safer for the dog starting out learning where to pick up an antler. Rubber antlers come in white and a dark brown color. The photo above shows a white rubber antler next to a real antler.

Chuck It Fetch Stick

A chuck it fetch stick is another alternative for some dogs to the rubber antler. It’s less awkward for them to carry and we can put our bone clone on the fetch stick.
